Welcome to my 64th Apothecary/Drugstore, Patent Medicine Bottles and Advertising auction. Thanks for your continued interest & support !! This auction will close on SATURDAY, JULY 15th, at 10:00 PM EST!! The sale features many rare & unique treasures from various consignors across the country including the Fourth session of the Dan Cowman Collection. Dan had a “keen eye” and amassed one of the top Patent Medicine collections in the country with a strong focus on Warner’s, labeled Patent Medicines, pills, tins and Advertising.
I am also currently accepting quality consignments for future auctions. Please call first before sending anything so we can discuss the items you wish to sell. I also buy outright one piece or entire collections and pay finders fees for good leads to old drugstores & private collections.
DESCRIPTIONS: I have tried to the best of my ability to describe all items in this sale and have mentioned any flaws or problems that I felt were necessary. Further information on any lot can be obtained by calling me. I’d be more than happy to help you out.
BIDDING: This is an absentee auction. All bids are to be done by the mail, phone, fax or email. By placing a bid on any lot you are agreeing to these terms and are obligated to honor your bids. This sale ends at 10:00 PM EST ON SATURDAY JULY 15th. You may check the bids on any lot up until this time by calling:
IMPORTANT: BIDDING ON THE LAST DAY OF THE SALE, SATURDAY, MARCH 4th, WILL BEGIN AT 12:00 NOON AND CONTINUE ALL DAY UNTIL THE 10:00 PM CLOSING. YOU CAN USE EITHER THE HOME OR FAX/PHONE NUMBERS TO PLACE OR CHECK BIDS ON THIS DAY.
If a tie bid occurs, the earliest bid placed is awarded the lot.
Bidding increments will be as follows:
$5 – $100.00 = $5. RAISE
$100- $250.00 = $10. RAISE
$250- $750.00 = $25. RAISE
$750- $1,500 = $50. RAISE
$1,500-$3,000 = $100. RAISE
$3,000-$10,000 = $250. RAISE
$10,000 and up = $500. RAISE
ALSO = PLEASE BID AT THE BIDDING INCREMENTS NOTED ABOVE WITH BIDS ENDING WITH A 5 OR 0. BIDS NOT ENDING WITH A 5 OR 0 WILL BE ROUNDED DOWN TO THE NEAREST 5 OR 0. FOR EXAMPLE, BIDS OF $21.00, $56.00 OR $101.00 WILL BE ROUNDED DOWN TO $20, $55 AND $100.00.
All lots will be sold to the highest bidder. Your bid and any left bids will be executed just as if you were at a “live” auction. For example, if you bid $300.00 on a lot and the next closest underbidder has a bid of only $150.00, you are in the lead on that lot at $160.00, the next highest bidding increment at that level. If no more bids are received and there is no advancement, then you win the lot for $160.00 = (Plus the 15% buyers premium).
MINIMUM / STARTING BIDS: Each lot will have a minimum or starting bid. That bid will be exactly one-half of the lower end of the estimated price. For example, if a lot is estimated at $100 – $200, the starting bid would be $50, and would proceed from there.
BUYERS PREMIUM: There is a 15% buyers premium for this auction to be paid by the highest bidder on top of their winning bid, and will be reduced to 12% if paying by check, money order, cashiers check or cash.
CALL BACKS: Call backs will be done by me starting the next day after the conclusion of the auction on lots with bids of $100.00 or more. No call backs on lots under this level. Bidding gets very active the last evening of the sale, and even with two phone lines, you may find it difficult “getting through” to me, especially that last hour before closing. If I may make a suggestion; if you are really interested in a lot, make sure that you leave me a bid of $100 on that lot. That doesn’t mean you will necessarily pay $100 for it (Remember, I bid competitively for you at all times against other bidders). Your $100 left bid will assure you that if you do get outbid at $110. after I speak to you, you will then be eligible for a callback and will not lose the lot and can continue bidding. I know many of you don’t want to “tip your hand”, but this will eliminate any problems if you can’t reach me that last hour and get outbid by $5 on an item you really wanted.
To be eligible for a callback, you must have already submitted a bid of at least $100. on that lot before the July 15th deadline. In future sales, I may have to limit the callbacks to only the top three bidders on any one lot, but for this sale, as long as you’ve bid $100 on a lot, you’ll be entitled to a callback. I may also increase the callback limit in future sales to reduce the number of callbacks per auction. As the auctions grow larger, changes will have to be made. If you are involved with a call back on any lot, it would be helpful to call me also, especially if you’re going to be out of town!! Use the calling times listed in the bidding section to reach me. I will also need work and cell phone numbers from you as I’ll be calling during the day as well as in the evening to wrap up all the call backs and conclude the auction. Callbacks will be concluded five days after the July 15th closing date – no exceptions! Because of the number of lots in this sale, I feel this is ample time to finish them up, and be fair to everyone who participated in the auction. If I can’t reach you during this period & don’t get a call from you, the lot will be awarded. After all call backs are made, invoices are sent out within a few days with the prices realized.
PAYMENTS: Payments may be made by check, money order, cashiers check, cash, all Major Credit Cards and PayPal. Credit Card & PayPal payments will be charged the 15% buyers premium, and would be reduced to 12% if paying by check, money order, cashiers check or cash. NY State residents are required to pay the 8 % sales tax unless you have a valid NY State resale number. If I haven’t received your payment within 30 days, your items may be offered to the underbidders and you may lose your right to participate in the next sale.
SHIPPING: All shipping costs are the responsibility of the winning bidder and will be included on your invoice. I will be shipping by Fed-Ex, US MAIL and UPS. Due to the volume of items shipped after each auction, Please allow up to 2-3 weeks for deliveries, after receiving your payment. I am a one-man operation and pack as fast as I can. Thanks for your understanding!!
PRICES REALIZED: Everyone who paid for a catalogue will be sent a prices realized sheet, regardless of whether or not they place a bid. These usually serve as a great price guide.
Please call or email me anytime if you have any questions about this auction. I can usually be reached at the phone numbers and times that I’ve already listed in the Bidding section. The entire catalog with color pictures (zoom in feature for closer inspection) can be viewed on my website at: www.mcmurrayauctions.com Good luck to all and I hope you enjoy the sale!!
